Browse templates and create adaptations

Templates pages display the templates available to you based on your current domain. From a templates page you can browse, preview, and create adaptations from templates.

You must have access to a portal with a templates page configured before completing the steps on this page. See Add pages to a portal for instructions on setting up a templates page.

Browse and preview templates

To browse templates, navigate to a templates page in your portal. Templates displayed belong to your current domain; to switch domain, expand the Domains menu at the top-right and select the required domain.

Select a template to open the details panel on the right-hand side. The details panel displays an enlarged preview of the template, along with its description, keywords, versions, and fields.

  1. Navigate to a templates page and select the template you wish to adapt.

  2. In the details panel, select Create Adaptation.

An iFrame opens displaying the adaptation editor.

The adaptation editor varies depending on the template type.
  3. Complete the required fields in the adaptation editor and finish creating the adaptation.

  4. When the adaptation is complete, a confirmation modal appears. Selecting View navigates to My Content in your workspace.

  2. For a fusion template, select Create Batch from its actions menu.

Alternatively, open the template’s details panel and select Create Batch.

Batch Name is a required field.
  4. If the template has relatives configured, download the linked data file(s) shown beneath the uploader.

  5. Enter the batch data into the downloaded file.

  6. Upload the completed file, either by dragging it into the modal or by browsing your files.

  7. Select Create Batch.

  8. When the adaptation is complete, a confirmation modal appears. Selecting View Batch navigates to My Content in your workspace.

Manage digital adaptations

This page explains how to work with the Complete, In Progress, and Batches tabs within the Digital Adaptations area of My Content.

Some actions described on this page may depend on your CA Role or Library access. See My Content permissions and access requirements for details.

Monitor adaptations in progress

While an adaptation is rendering, it displays in the In Progress tab. A count on the tab indicates the number of items currently rendering.

Adaptations are listed in a table with the following columns:

  • Name

  • Media Type

  • Status

  • Date Created

While an adaptation is processing, an orange spinner icon displays as its initial thumbnail.

Handle a failed adaptation

If an adaptation fails to process, this is clearly indicated and the adaptation remains in the In Progress tab.

  1. In the "…" action menu, select Recreate or Delete.

Once adaptations have finished processing, they move to the Completed tab, and the In Progress tab empties.

Work with completed adaptations

The Completed tab behaves like a standard asset list page, where you can search and filter adaptation results. Adaptations move to the Completed tab once they have finished processing from the In Progress tab.

Navigate to an adaptation and select its "…" action menu. The following options can be available based on permissions and LUMA configuration:

Recreate an adaptation

  1. Select Recreate from the "…" action menu, or from the adaptation’s right-hand details panel.

  2. In the create adaptation iframe, amend the selections as required for the adaptation.

  3. Select Create Asset.

  4. In the pop-up, choose one of the following:

    • Replace asset: updates the existing adaptation.

    • Create new asset: adds a new adaptation.

Manage adaptation batches

Digital adaptation batches (described here) are generated from digital templates using the CA engine. They are a separate feature from print adaptation batches, which are generated from fusion print templates. See manage print adaptations for the print equivalent.

The Batches tab lists all batch adaptations generated from digital templates. For each batch, the "…" action menu provides Edit, Copy, and Delete actions.

Edit a batch

  1. Select Edit and the edit batch adaptations modal loads.

  2. Modify fields as required, and add or delete rows as needed.

  3. Select Create Assets, then select Validate.

The modal closes and you are directed to the In Progress tab, where the updated or new assets begin processing.

Once processing finishes, the batch updates and moves to the Completed tab.

Copy a batch

  1. Select Copy and the copy batch adaptations modal loads.

  2. Modify fields as required, and add or delete rows as needed.

  3. Select Create Assets, then select Validate.

Once processing finishes and the batch’s adaptations have rendered successfully, the copied batch is added to the batches list table.

Delete a batch

  1. Select Delete from the batch’s "…" action menu.

  2. In the confirmation modal, select Confirm to proceed, or Cancel to keep the batch.

View individual adaptations of a batch

  1. Selecting a batch opens the Completed tab and is filtered to that batch.

All items belonging to the batch display individually.

Troubleshooting

Problem: An adaptation shows as failed in the In Progress tab.

Solution: Select Recreate to try again, or Delete to remove it.
